Hello from Second Grade!
The three second grade classes from Petrova Elementary went to Banker Orchards where we took a wagon ride, visited some farmyard animals, and got an informative presentation on what it takes to run an orchard and take care of the trees, We learned about cross pollination, how bees are used in the orchard, and how the apples are picked for optimum results. We used the apples from the orchard to bake pies in our classrooms as we are learning about goods and resources. We sold the pies at Parents Night and made over 300 dollars. This money will be used to shop at Aldi's for healthy food for the Food Pantry. We love this project because it covers so many different subjects...science, math, social studies.. The students are totally completely engaged in every aspect of this and we feel it is chock full of rigor and relevance! Thank you for supporting us!
